This skin care product is amongst the many things passed on to me by my mother. I choose the above picture as it reminded me of the many other lessons my mother taught me including reading my bible and trusting in the Lord.
Before I continue with this post I want to say -thank you to my mother. Thank you to my mother for forcing me to wear Vaseline and having me look like a disco ball at school. Up until the age of 15 I only used Vaseline on my skin and as you can imagine I was super shiny. -I attribute my supple skin to using vaseline.
Now in my 20s -If I could choose only one product to use on my skin, it would be Vaseline (petroleum jelly ).
It keeps my skin hydrated especially during the night. I use it every night after applying my nighttime moisturiser. What is Vaseline ?
Vaseline is a brand of petroleum jelly, it contains 100 % purified petroleum jelly which has undergone purification. Vaseline undergoes significant purification to remove carcinogens and toxins, therefore there is a very low risk of cancer from using vaseline.
It was first produced by a chemist called Robert Chesebrough in the 1850s who later marketed it as Vaseline.
It is an occlusive. It acts as a barrier preventing evaporative water loss and trapping water under your skin.
The brand vaseline is non-comedogenic so does not cause acne and does not clog pores.
Different uses of vaseline
-Moisturise lips.
-Moisturise skin - provides a barrier to prevent water loss from the skin.
-To heal cracked skin.
-Healing burns and cuts - Provides a barrier to stop air, toxins and water from entering the skin, therefore allowing the burn or cut to heal.
-Personally I love vaseline as an occlusive .I apply Vaseline last thing at night to keep my skin hydrated throughout the night.
-Remove mascara.
-Lip scrub - mix vaseline with some sugar and use it to scrub your lips for soft lips.
- Protect your skin, for example when using salicylic acid to treat verrucas, you can use vaseline to cover the normal skin.
-Hayfever -Rub vaseline onto your lower nostrils to prevent pollen entering your nose.
