La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel

I have oily skin but I use this product every other day as it can be drying to the skin. I also use a small amount to avoid drying out my skin and I would not recommend it for people with dry skin.- Remember to always moisturise my skin after using any cleanser.

Description of product - Source: La Roche-Posay website

A facial wash for oily skin. Gently cleanses the skin thanks to its high tolerance foaming power. Helps to eliminate impurities and excess sebum, leaving the skin feeling clean and fresh. Contains La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water. Can also be used as a body wash.

Why it works?

This product is good for oily and or acne prone skin.

It contains the zinc salt of  pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (Zinc -PCA). Zinc is anti-inflammatory and it has also been shown to reduce sebum production and has antibacterial properties. Excess sebum production is associated with acne so this can help reduce acne lesions and control oily skin. Zinc PCA is a humectant therefore it has a moisturising effect on the skin. It is also an astringent

The skins natural pH is around 5.5.  This foaming gel cleanser also has a pH of 5.5 so it will not disturb the natural pH of the skin.

Pros
  • Soap, alcohol and paraben free
  • It is not dying to the skin if you have oily skin.
  • I had a white head and after using this product for two days it had shrunk significantly.
  • My skin felt clean after using it yet it did not tighten my skin.
  • A little goes a long way the tube lasted two months.
  • It is a foaming cleanser so it is good for acne prone or oily skin.
  • It is good for removing makeup. I double cleanse so this is my second cleanser and it removes all the excess makeup.
  • It can be used as a body wash.

Cons
  • If you have dry skin it can be drying to the skin.
  • Price - It retails at boots currently for £11.00  for a 200ml bottle which is pretty expensive for a drug store cleanser but a little goes a long way.
  • Fragranced.

Buying advice
